(Nasdaq: ESPI - news) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, ACSI Network Technologies, Inc., has signed a lease agreement with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) that permits it to install three segments of fiber optic cable inside Metrorail tunnels in Northern Virginia, across the Potomac River, and into Washington, D.C. This agreement enhances e.spire's plans to complete construction, implement a fiber network, and offer switched, dedicated, data, and Internet services in the area by Third Quarter 1999.
As specified in the arrangement with WMATA, e.spire will thread fiber in protective covering along tunnel walls and within troughs in designated areas of the Washington, D.C. Metro system
