Says who? According to the foils, K7 has a 64-bit P2P bus running at 200 MHz. That can either be filled with a single 800 MHz RDRAM channel or two PC100 SDRAM channels.

You're getting your facts about the K7 confused with Compaq's new Alpha 21264 platforms. As I understand it, the 21264 runs on a 64-bit 333 MHz P2P bus. This needs to be fed with four PC100 SDRAM channels running at 83 MHz, hence the 256-bit data pipe.

You forgot to answer my question, Slick. Do you think Intel is wasting millions and millions of dollars into a technology which will ultimately prove to be a detriment to performance?
