Deanne, thank you. I missed Etrade's apology, and I did not know there was one. In my experience with reputable web sites, they provide direct e-mail notifications as soon as something goes wrong, along with some reasonable explanation of what happened, and an expectation of when any difficulties might be cleared up. I regret to say I've not received anything of that sort from Etrade by e-mail or by telephone. Apparently from what you saw, they at least posted some brief, transient apology. Perhaps even an explanation of what happened? But if so, that's no substitute for making every good-faith effort to contact customers in order to rectify the situation.
