Motion Picture Experts Group-2 = MPEG2 "which is the same technology that digital videodisc players use" If she meant VCD then she's wrong. VCD uses MPEG1. SVCD uses MPEG2. It's could just be an excuse to keep the bitrate at 2mbits. Which would give you "only slightly better quality than that available with analog VHS recording" However Replay says on their site you can go as high as 6mbits.
