I am on a cable modem network and what you say about "sharing bandwidth" is correct with the modem I am now using. If the kids down the street all want to play Quake or some other intensive bandwidth hog we all slow. However, my cable company has newer modems that they are installing to replace the current ones and they are asyncronous(sp) and will allot you x much bandwidth to yourself thus alleviating the problem of shared bandwidth, at least that is how it has been explained to me. The cable modem is not without other problems I.E. cable is much faster than dsl asdn but less reliable in terms of service. I could not go back to 56K after having fast access for the last year. I am playing pair because I believe there is plenty of room in the struggle for bandwidth for several competing technologies. For the home user cable does appear to me to have the lead so far.
