You know, Thomas, I realized as soon as I got to work today that I probably forgot the name of that prostitute movie, and it has been bothering me all day. Sorry!! The name of the movie is The Good Woman of Bangkok. I really appreciate your analysis of prostitution and the economic underpinnings. Your statement that in the Philippines a surprisingly large number of the prostitutes actually meet an American and get married was shocking to me, until I remembered the American men in the movie I saw, and that they were specifically looking for obedient, submissive women who would do everything they wanted sexually, plus their laundry, with a smile!!! By firsthand, I just meant, had you observed this subculture, and did you know anything about it. Certainly no further implications were intended!! Thanks a lot for describing it. Christine
