Neocon--

While I take your larger point -- the VRWC doesn't reach this far -- the idea that a "Leftist" has anything to lose by torpedoing Sid Blumenthal stretches credulity. Chris Hitchens should be taken at his word, I think, but his writing makes clear that he feels justified in disliking both Clinton and his partisans.

As a sidebar, Hitchens and fellow Brit Alexander Cockburn have recently been going back-and-forth on whether Orwell's list of suspect persons (submitted, in part, to British intelligence) should bar George forever from the ranks of the righteous. Hitchens applauds Orwell's naming names as a legitimate continuation of his hard-earned anti-Stalinism.

Lest we forget, Hitchens also writes for the Maoist (or is it Trotskyite) "Vanity Fair," so perhaps anything is possible. VLWC, anyone?
