Scumbria,

Retribution to the Republican Party from the voters will be severe.

There may be repercussions in the presidential race, but I don't think this will be true in congressional races. The electorate has both the intelligence and attention span of a moth. George Bush -- fresh off the defeat of Iraq in the Gulf War, with an approval rating in the 70s and all the advantages of incumbency -- was nonetheless defeated about 23 (or so) months later. The mid-term elections -- smack in the swirl of the impeachment process -- nonetheless preserved a Republican majority. There will be little if any retribution two years after impeachment if there was little or no retribution DURING the impeachment... You sound like Carville with his "unfinished business" and "storming the polls" talk. The sad fact is, the only things that will affect swing votes in 2000 will be events in the 6-8 weeks before votes are cast. Anything before that is too abstract for the electorate to remember or factor into their vote.
