Pharma stocks lead bull run; Sensex closes up 99 points

Equities zoomed in the late afternoon sessions on Wednesday speculative buying. The bull run was caused by FII interest in pharma stocks. Telecom scrips were also back in the limelight on good FII support. Pivotals traded in a narrow range and high-priced infotech scrips came under profit booking.

On the BSE, the 30-share index (Sensex) was stuck within a narrow range of 3247 - 3255 for most of the morning and afternoon before shooting up in the pharma led rally. The Sensex closed the day at 3307.49, up 99 points over Tuesday's close. On the NSE, the Nifty closed up 34 points at 959.45.

Among the pivotals on the BSE, Reliance closed at Rs 123, Telco at Rs 198, SBI at Rs 154, ITC at Rs 840, ACC at Rs 2033, HLL at Rs 2033, Infosys at Rs 2435 and NIIT at Rs 2367.
