Evans & Sutherland Implements Manugistics Supply Chain Optimization in Four Weeks

Bottom-line Results Achieved One Month After Implementation Include Improved

Ability to Meet Customer Requirements and Reduction in Inventory

ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MANU) today announced that in just four weeks Evans & Sutherland (E&S(R)) successfully implemented Manugistics' supply chain management software and a month later achieved bottom-line results, including improving its customer responsiveness and reducing inventory for its leading-edge hardware and software products for visual systems. In addition to its rapid supply chain implementation, E&S was able to integrate its Manugistics solution with its Oracle enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution within 48 hours.

As a leading developer and manufacturer of hardware and software to produce highly realistic 3D synthetic worlds, it was critical for Evans & Sutherland to improve visibility into its pipeline of raw materials and provide "what-if" planning capabilities. With Manugistics, E&S is able to quickly rationalize its outsourcing of materials, improve its ability to promise orders in real time, and more accurately determine the cost of product components. Manugistics also allows E&S to quickly revise its plans when unexpected orders arise to determine whether or not it can meet customer requirements and accept new orders.

"We were looking for a solution that could be implemented quickly and could drive significant bottom-line results within a matter of weeks," said Nick Gibbs, director of materials for Evans & Sutherland. "Of all the vendors we evaluated, Manugistics was the only company that had clients who were realizing the type of rapid results we were looking to achieve. Already, we have been able to improve our visibility into the planning process and accept unplanned orders, which translate into increased revenue."

Faced with the challenge of accurately promising delivery of a complex product that is highly dependent on material availability, Evans & Sutherland chose Manugistics because of its extensive planning capabilities and the functionality to quickly develop feasible supply plans in real time. With Manugistics, inventory management is significantly improved because of the ability to ensure that the right materials are inbound and to reduce the amount of unneeded materials that are on order. Manugistics has enabled E&S to determine the effect of engineering change orders by easily determining the cost of materials that are made obsolete due to the changes.

E&S has integrated Manugistics to Oracle 10.7 using Manugistics Open Application Integration(TM) plug-in to Oracle. Because Manugistics uses a pre-configured plug-in, the integration between the two systems was complete in only 48 hours.

"The ability to quickly and easily integrate Manugistics and Oracle was a critical factor in our success with this implementation," said Dave Fluegeman, director of information technology for E&S. "Manugistics' approach to Open Application Integration made sharing critical information between these two systems a simple task. Instead of concentrating on integration, we're focusing on the next way to use Manugistics to improve customer service and increase revenue."

Evans & Sutherland business units deliver high-quality visual systems for simulation and training in defense and commercial applications as well as high-performance systems for desktop graphics, digital studio, and digital theater applications through the world.
