NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1999--Royal KPN NV, the Netherlands' leading phone company, and Delta Three, a subsidiary of RSL Communications, Ltd. (Nasdaq:RSLCF), announced that KPN has joined the Delta Three Internet Telephony network and will begin an extensive market pilot to distribute Voice over the Internet services in the Netherlands today.
The alliance will initially distribute Voice on the Internet Calling cards, which will use Delta Three's Internet Telephony Network to transport calls throughout the world. 5,000 pre-paid calling cards will be distributed through post offices in the first phase of the promotion. The calling cards are available in denominations of 25 Guilders and will target among others, ethnic markets in Rotterdam.
KPN joins Iceland Telecom and Norway's Telenor Nextel as a member of Delta Three's Network Partnership Program. The program combines Delta Three's worldwide Internet Telephony services and Ericsson's technology in a turnkey gateway solution that allows major telcos around the world to distribute IP Telephony services to customers via traditional channels.
As one of the premier members of the Delta Three Network Partnership Program, KPN will install Ericsson's Internet Protocol Telephony Solution and connect to the Delta Three Global Internet Telephony network. According to Telegeography, KPN is the 13th largest telecommunications carrier worldwide in terms of outgoing minutes and the 6th largest carrier in Europe according to the same criteria.
