"Successful businesses today demand fast, reliable networks to
ensure the benefits of high-performance connected PCs, and Fast
Ethernet has proven itself the technology of choice for LAN
connections," said Mark Christensen, vice president, Intel's
Internet and Communications Group and general manager of the Network
Products Division. "Now we're taking another step on the path we
charted in 1995 to make Fast Ethernet less expensive than
traditional Ethernet for businesses and to enable customers to
maximize their high-performance Pentium(R) and Pentium(R) Pro
processor-based PCs."
Intel's ability to significantly reduce prices results from its
expertise in silicon design and fabrication and its volume
manufacturing capabilities. The reductions virtually eliminate
price as a factor in a company's decision to start the migration to
Fast Ethernet. Intel's affordable solutions simplify the
integration of 10/100-megabit-per second (Mbps) capabilities into
customers' growing networks, whether they need high-speed networking
now or expect to in the future.
The price reductions further the Intel networking momentum
reflected in three recent announcements, including Intel's
acquisition of Case Technology, its equity investment in Xircom, and
its introduction of the Express 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch.
Intel's product line provides a wide range of networking
solutions, including award-winning adapters, hubs, switches and
print servers. Designed to run at 10 or 100Mbps, the products allow
companies to easily migrate from existing 10Mbps networks to
high-performance, 100Mbps networks. The products include: the
EtherExpress(TM) family of LAN adapters, Express 10/100 Fast
Ethernet Switch, Express 100BASE-T Fast Ethernet Stackable Hubs,
Express 10/100 Downlink, and the NetportExpress(TM) PRO/100 family
of print servers. |
