AAPL has the new design (with IBM) called CHRP - Common Hardware Reference Platform. This allows more extensive use of generic components, including Apple Windows OS2 i/o, and therefore improves the likelihood that manufacturing costs can be maintained at very competitive levels. It also means that a Major Clone manufacturer (ie: Dell, Gateway) might find it attractive to produce them - if they see the market stabilize/grow. THAT WOULD BE GREAT NEWS - MAYBE EVEN ENOUGH TO HAVE THE PESSIMISTS TAKE POSITIVE NOTE !

The benefits/success of Rhapsody is a seperate issue. But given that the system will be Unix based, the new os and faster hardware could make AAPL the choice for Servers and Unix front-ends. What do you thinks?
