Advanced Fibre Communications Successfully Deploys First UMC 1000 Access System With Bahamas Telecommunications
PETALUMA, Calif., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Fibre Communications(R), Inc. (AFC) (Nasdaq: AFCI) announced today deployment of several UMC 1000(R) access systems to Bahamas Telecommunications (BaTelCo), one of the Caribbean's most sophisticated service providers. This deployment initiates AFC's presence in the Bahamas and favorably positions the UMC 1000 for future applications throughout the Caribbean.
In a competitive telecommunications access market, BaTelCo selected AFC's UMC 1000 digital loop carrier for its ability to maximize their fiber transport infrastructure and deliver cost-effective data services to their growing customer base.
"The banking community and area hotels, which comprise a large number of BaTelCo's customer base, are demanding additional lines and more advanced services," said Gregory Peters, AFC's vice president of International Operations. "The UMC 1000 offers BaTelCo simple scalability, meaning they can deploy POTS and more advanced data services all from one access platform."
The telecommunications market is continuing to evolve, offering new services and higher bandwidth capabilities. With a range of service needs throughout the Bahamas, BaTelCo feels that it is critical that they deploy access equipment that can cost-effectively serve both residential and business subscribers; the UMC 1000 delivers the level of flexibility BaTelCo needs.
BaTelCo is currently deploying the UMC 1000 in point to point configurations using primarily fiber transport. Offering full compatibility with copper, fiber, and wireless transport, AFC's UMC 1000 delivers access solutions for the networks of the future.
AFC is a leading manufacturer of telecommunications systems for the "local loop" between telephone service users and public telephone networks worldwide. AFC has pioneered a single platform that supports any network, any transport, and any service. AFC's flagship product, the UMC 1000(R) multi-service access platform, provides any service from POTS to xDSL over copper, fiber, HDSL, and radio transport media.
