John,

I'd be very careful here. I don't believe the award "Intelispan" received at Comdex was not for anything Intelispan has developed or owns, but was for software developed by Cyclone Software. Intelispan, as touted in their own press claimed that they had a "definative agreement" to acquire Cyclone. Well about a month back I read on ZDnet that this "definative agreement" had fallen through.

To my knowledge Intelispan has not developed anything. My research indicates that they own no network, have no unique technology and are simply a reseller of the GridNet network (currently owned by WorldCom). They tout the fact that this is a private network, separate and distinct from the Intenet as their key diferentiator. This may in fact be true, but with the gaining acceptance of IPSec allowing for VPN's over the Internet I'd bet that the private managed network approach will be relegated to a small nice market. You simply can't fight the ubiquity of the Internet!

Considering that Intelispan is nothing more than a reseller of WorldCom's network services in a market where they will not only have to sell against WorldCom, but will be squeezed by thinning margins, I just don't see the business case or the appeal.

I share your beleief in the VPN market, but I think there are much better bets than this company, Concentric for example. I personally believe Intelispan is a house of cards.

Crap-shoot might be too optimistic...how about the lottery!
