<<That's 40%+ unit growth a year for 2 years just to gain
back 1.7% marketshare. The numbers are a bit daunting.>>

I've said this before, but I'll reiterate that these kinds of numbers aren't daunting in my view--they are great from an investor's standpoint.

A lot of people say that being in the business of competing against and trying to take marketshare away from a behemoth like Microsoft is suicide. When you get large enough as a competitor, they activate their engines to destroy you as a business.

Not surprisingly, then, people view companies like Apple with trepidation, questioning how long they can steal marketshare from Microsoft before "paying for it."

The figures you mention prove what I've always thought--that Apple has a LOT of room to grow as a company before running into any kinds of brick walls (like Microsoft).

From an investor's standpoint, then, these numbers are basically saying that Apple can continue with better-than-industry-average growth for the forseeable future without having to jump over any huge roadblocks.
