One additional note:
You got me thinking (Yes, I do that from time to time):
One option (a very inexpensive one) for achieving desired data rate would be to offer an internal card version, simular to todays internal modems, that would be treated as a nick-card of sorts, with it's own driver. No need for the added nick card. Although I do like the idea of one with a nick card that is accessable by many users on a LAN. This would make the typical T1/DS0 low-end router an expense that would no longer be a required for many back-office WAN solutions. Just another large market for this "thing".
