Michael,

This Dell losing market share question was tough for me to find printed backup as the data was reported on tv, not in print. Dell has squashed its release after that slip by Bubblevision. <G> However, I saw several other notes from folks who heard the same thing I heard on CNBS.

Sorry to regrind the same old ax (I know it's down to the handle) but can't this be an artifact. If Compaq sells machines directly to business customers and essentially sold those same machines to their existing channels to sell to the same customers then wouldn't their unit sales spike? As their resellers realize that they've been taken they will slow their order rate and market share figures would return to normal. Of course Compaq could be taking market share from Dell. It is just hard to figure why companies happily doing business with Dell would be waiting with baited breath for Compaq to start selling directly.

Dave
