There's no one starving in this country, so there really isn't that much stigma attached to disposing of products that are in over supply. The real point, though, is that capitalism, while certainly not perfect, does work.
How would you suggest they "give" their surplus products away? Would you suggest the growers open their groves to the public? Have you ever seen a herd of people invade an orchard? They haven't been trained to pick fruit, and more importantly, they have no care if the trees are damaged. Or do you think the grower should pay to have the fruit picked, and then pay to have it shipped to a distribution point? Or do you think everyone should donate their services? Do you think those who bought the products and maintain the market would be happy, and how would they be able to sell their products? If their sales outlets can't remain in business, what incentive is there to the grower of the produce to continue in business?
