I wasn't talking about a national average. I was talking about the wide variances in median income among locales. The same occupations can pay very different wages in different locations. And both people can be considered middle class for their communities. I'm not talking about $ 175,000 middle managers or $ 800,000 utility infielders. The 15% bracket jumps to 28% rather quickly.
