Printing Yen Japan's Only Option -- U.S. Analysts

biz.yahoo.com

Ron, I can think of another option. How about that trillion in U.S. bonds the Japanse loaded up on the last two decades?

The Japanese are expected to ignore their own constituents--Japanese with high savings rates and yen denominated accounts--just to keep the world's reserve currency in play. And they must, or the game is over. Meanwhile, we smugly criticize for Japan's "insufficient stimulus" measures.

Consider what this says about the current currency system. Had Japan instead bought a boat load of gold the U.S., the IMF, the CB's would all advocate "mobilization" and sale, and all would be well in Japan.

Which is better? An asset you can sell, or one you can't?
