<<If the case had of centered around something illegal like a burglary then things may have been different as long as they could come up with more evidence than was presented. What happened to filegate or whitewater anyway? >>
It DID center around something illegal. The President did lie under oath and temporarily changed the outcome of a woman's civil suit to her detriment. Thanks to his being caught, she received 850,000 grand as a settlement.
I know you don't think it's proven that he lied under oath, but just to take this full circle I'd like to point out to you todays Poll results from CBS. According to my T.V. the latest CBS poll says 84% of those polled believe the President is GUILTY of both PERJURY and OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. Hey, like I said, I didn't lie in my post- I WAS being sarcastic when I "admitted" I lied. I said only 70%.
At the same time most of that same 84% don't believe he should be removed.
I agree with you about the general morality of Americans. Things change. Yet still they care at least a little. I don't like what he did with a young immature intern- it shows a lot about his character, and Polls reflect that, too. Democrats one and all disparage him for it. --but as quitely as possible. They would not be so quiet if Clinton were Bush, for instance. The American public you can be sure, realizes this, views it as Democratic hypocrisy, whether you do or not. JMHO
Fact is, any man who disparages as Clinton has, the women from whom he's tried successfully or unsuccessfully to get a little, is viewed very badly by the American people and rightfully so. For all the lies the average American is aware some friend has told over an affair, when a man is caught red-handed as Clinton has been, he generally just fesses up. He no longer tries to claim he said "true things" while he was busy covering it up- it doesn't wash and he isn't so delusional as to think he can get away with such a claims.
I maintain that those 84% who think he is guilty would NOT feel terribly sorry for Clinton nor seriously punish Republicans were Clinton actually removed. But, thanks to those partisan Democrats whose who have voted party line on this issue to a far greater extent than Republicans have, he won't be removed and I'll never see my point proven or disproven. |
