I copied this off the Yahoo board. If Dick Brown is truly doing these things I'm sure he will shake up the establishment in Plano. Dan ========== From the EDS TeamBuilders newsgroup: He mentioned some of the things he is doing to cut costs and asked that we all do the same. He is selling 5 of the 9 corporate jets. He also said.."and we don't need helicopters either. Driving to the airport is OK." or something to that affect. Apparently the old powers that be used to hop in the helicopter for a ride to the airport to hop on the corporate jet. What a waste. And at the same time as forcing draconian budget restrictions on the rest of us. I think Dick will fix that. He was actually 20 minutes late because of a delay on his commercial flight. He also mentioned that someone suggested performing a 6 month study of jet usage before trimming the EDS Air Force. He gave them 5 days to sell the planes and helicopters. He seems to be leading by example. I think it's possible for us all to save a few bucks here and there and he seems to be leading by example. I just hope he lets us decide where we can cut rather than dictate that from the top. I was hoping to request that he allow us to make such decisions but didn't get a chance. However, I think he will. He also challenged us all to push the boundaries of our authority, to take risks and make mistakes (just don't make them over and over....giggles from the gallery). He also mentioned his e-mail from yesterday. He asked that it be sent out to everyone. He was told it would take 4 days. He said that was unacceptable. They said 1 day. He gave them 30 minutes. After 29 1/2 minutes he said they reported the message had been sent. He then found out they had sent it to 100 people and told them to pass it on. He then asked how many people the network could reach. They told him 60,000. He said send it to the 60,000. They said it would bring down the network. He told them to do it anyway. It seemed to have worked Sounds like he's really trying to change the mindset in Plano. He also mentioned that it didn't make sense to him for us to spend all of our money in Dallas when the area only provided a fraction of 1% of our revenue's. He said that the HQ complex scared him because it was so big. He took the job without ever having seen the building and couldn't believe it when he saw it. He has removed every reserved parking spot from the campus. He said if you want a spot close to the building then get to work early.
