Sales "shot up 15%," which counts the channel stuff and the mountain of receivables.
Mike, I still find it interesting that as of today, roughly half way through the quarter, CPQ and GTW have both publicly stated that this quarter is shaping up well. Has it occurred to you that you just might be wrong?
to screw up your good cos. beating up on the other 57% theory
Both Dataquest and IDC support my argument.
Dataquest states that worldwide the "other" accounted for 62.2% in 97 and just 60.1% in 98. And for US, "others" 51.3% in 97, and 47.2% in 98.
IDC states basically the same thing with some minor variations. idc.com gartner5.gartnerweb.com
The top 5 ARE DEFINITELY taking share from the "others".
"Corporations are steadily upgrading boxes." Actually, no they aren't and that is why the growth went negative in the industry last year and is accelerating to the downside this year.
Growth in the industry slowed from 97. I don't know what "went negative" means. Growth is projected to increase industry wide in 99 over 98, according to the "touts", as you call them. In any event, the "big" players will all grow this year.
Nary one mention of revenues, except to say that falling prices cut into them.
Again, revs should be up at CPQ. Will be up at GTW, and will be up at DELL. IBM and HWP? Who knows? The rest? Who cares? Oh yeah, I guess INTC and MSFT. And they both are still pretty upbeat about this year.
90 million
Just how is this a "disaster"?
CPQ US share
But grew world share, and units while admittedly struggling to digest DEC much of the year. And on another issue, why do you guys always bash "services"? Its the only reason they bought DEC.
IBM
I worked for them for over 10 years and can't defend them <g>, except for the fact that my employee shares are worth A LOT more now than when I left in 94...
No wonder Mikey sold so many shares.
Michael Dell deserves to sell a few percent of his holdings. The man has made a lot of people smile over the last 4 years, me included...
