"They found that turning off the proxy server fixed their problem."

Steve,
Thanks for the suggestion but that is one of the first things I tried a while back. Anyone who has a cable modem should just turn the proxy server setting off because cable modems are supposed to be so fast(theoretically).

For those that don't understand what the suggestion entails, your browser may tell attempt to see if the location you are hitting is located on a local cache(storage) server. If so, the speed is much quicker because you don't have to deal with the traffic on the Internet to retreive it. Roadrunner does store quite a few sites on their local servers. You can tell because when you hit those sites, it downloads in a flash. But they do not cache SI. But in my case, it did not work whether the proxy server setting was on or off.

PS I took the time to mention all the above because there was some discussion on this thread(?) about a company that either makes caching software or hardware as a Last Mile, "bandwidth" solution. I can't remember the company, but it was a hot stock. That's all I recall.
