Hitachi Data Systems' Freedom Storage Incorporated in Systems Managed by Accessible Software's Access 1
SANTA CLARA, C.A. and Whippany, N.J., 8 February, 1999 -- Hitachi Data Systems and Accessible Software, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: ASWE), today announced that Accessible's Access 1™ software has been extended to include Hitachi Freedom Storage™ in the collection of objects it can view and manipulate. The combination of Hitachi Freedom Storage and Access 1 provides a productivity-enhancing solution that helps users simplify their system-management processes.
Hitachi Freedom Storage is the first complete family of Storage Area Network-ready subsystems to reach the marketplace. It is ideal for customers whose business needs require that their data be distributed throughout the enterprise - and yet be managed from a centralized location.
Access 1 is designed to fully realize the potential of object-oriented development for delivering enterprise management solutions. The software enables users to visualize their company's entire computing landscape as graphically depicted objects and determine the state of any machine, operating system, or other resource. A single click of the mouse on a Windows-based processor displays computing events in process, performance data, and other attributes of any object or collection of objects in the system.
"Access 1 will let IT administrators manage their Freedom Storage as an integrated component of their systems management strategy," said Jim Tagliareni, President of Accessible Software. "The integration of Freedom Storage with Access 1 goes beyond centralized alert management. Our object model also links storage objects to problem, change and configuration data, providing a single operational interface for managing these resources. Any storage resource will also be able to be incorporated into our Line of Business Views, providing customized views for individuals with specific application needs."
The multi-platform Hitachi Freedom Storage 7700E attaches to mainframe and open-systems servers located within "glass-house" data centers. The Freedom 5700E attaches to single-host, open-systems servers in distributed computing environments. And the new Freedom 5800 - which can be located either inside or outside the glass house - is the highest performing subsystem offered for use with clustered servers in Windows NT®, UNIX®, and NetWare® environments.
Tests validating the integration of Freedom Storage 7700E and 5700E subsystems with Access 1 have been completed. HDS intends to validate integration of the recently announced Freedom Storage 5800 as well.
"Hitachi Freedom Storage is designed to help customers gain agility in managing their businesses by locating their data wherever it makes sense to do so, while managing it all from a central location," said James E. Harris, HDS Vice President, Marketing and Global Alliances. "With the functionality of our storage products now incorporated in Accessible's Access 1 software, we're able to offer customers an even greater level of business agility."
