marc, Yes there is a big serious competitor in compression- I just can think of their name. They are worldwide- anyone can help? They are listed in Valueline under Energy Service Companies. Yes GE has been in the compression business. Also many companies just buy their own compressors and do their own thing. The "unbundling" of expertises has been in the natural gas world for a while-it's just coming to the oil world....

The value of a JV is mainly cost savings. Many redundant costs are stripped from the business model in a JV. Assuming that the companies get along well, then the JV should work on that basis. My guess is that WFT and GE want to lower costs of doing business so that they can offer lower prices to energy companies for compression but still maintain a healthy profit margin and psition themselves for inncreased compressio needs in the natural gas field/plant/pipeline segments of the business....
