Matsushita Battery To Sell Powered-up Nickel-Hydrogen Cells

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. will introduce on March 1 chargeable nickel-hydrogen cells that are more powerful than its previous products for the same price, officials said. The top Japanese battery maker targets sales of 200,000 units per month.

Matsushita will offer the batteries in AA size with 1,550 milliampere output, 11% up from the previous model, and AAA size with 670 milliampere output, 22% up. The two new products, which can be charged some 500 times, will be priced at 1,080 for a pair of AA cells and 900 yen for two AAA cells.

The company will simultaneously release the BQ-370 recharger which can charge four nickel-hydrogen or nickel-cadmium cells at a time, priced at 4,400 yen.
