A master of obfuscation, I think BE means that WCOM doesn't need wireless at THIS VERY INSTANT but if they don't get their butts in gear soon they'll get their lunch handed to them.

A deal is in the works with NXTL. Period. Ebbers can hem and haw all he likes but they're talking. He's hedging because he knows that the instant a WCOM-NXTL deal is announced the European boys will step up to the plate.

We NXTL shareholders will soon have some REAL fun watching multi-national telcos compete for the right to NXTL's hand. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that WCOM is going to get left at the altar because Bernie Ebbers will be so focused on WCOM's next quarterly earnings that he won't be able to see the forest for the trees. If that turns out to be true, then WCOM will become somebody's lunch down the road. My preference is for an American acquirer but, hey, if their money is green I'll take it from the Europeans. Euros need not apply, dollars only.
