*AV*--I sat in on the Conference Call yesterday and was impressed with what I heard. Both GSNX and MTSN have been on the peripheral of the universe for awhile and have popped in and out of the radar screen. After listening to the copnference call, I dropped GSNX from the universe since MTSN has been able to penetrate GSNX customers and win purchase orders. Both companies were nip and tuck for a few years but the new strategy of MTSN clearly has them in the drivers seat. MTSN moved away from the "one trick Pony" type of company and now has CVD, Strip and RTP capabilities. More importantly is the utilization of the Aspen platform for a portion of their equipment offerings. This makes for a stronger, more diverse company.
The bottom line to the conferecne call for me was:
1. 3 product families in different stages of a life cycle. Strip is in the mature cycle and the other two or either approaching maturity or is coming out out the gate at the initial stages of its life cycle.
2. The financials were not as pathetic as I expected.
3. Their business is picking up across the board.
I kept away from the stock today for one reason only. When it came to the question and answer session, there were NO QUESTIONS asked. Dead air and then they signed off. This was the very first time I sat in on a conference call and their were no questions asked. If the "boys" in investment land liked what they heard, you would have thought at least one of them would have given them kudos and then asked a meaningless question. No one even asked when they expected their business to pick up, etc.
I couldn't find any other conferecne call that might have conflicted with this, other than AEIS, to cause such a pathetic post financial discussion. So I stayed on the sidelines today. I have follwed MTSN for years and have nothing but good things to say about its founder, Brad Mattson and the products they offer. I once thought of this as a takeover candidate but they have done enough broadening of their product line to move into the questionable takeover category. A few more decent moves by MTSN and a bit more improvement in market share, these guys stand agood chance surviving as an independent company.
I guess when that happens, POOF!!!, a bif bad boy comes in and snatches them up<GGG>.
