Someone asked Cal during the Ancor CC if NGIO should be considered a threat to FC. Cal said "its possible, but it would take several years after standards are adopted to achieve ubiquity."

Another intersting question regarding timing was "how long would it take someone to develop a switch from day one". Cal responed that it might take someone with gigabit switching experence [GbE] +/- 2 years and without it maybe 3 years or more. That looks to be clearly outside of the competitive window. Cal also commented that he would not want to underestimate the capabilities of the big networking compamies. Of course they also have other resources to compress their schedules.
