First it's talk about SHRP (Sharper Smage) soon to open an auction site, and now it's a rumor of a buyout of SPGLA (Spiegel Catalogue).

Below are clips from various message boards on 2/11/99

Buy recommendation by a prominent newsletter (Market Digest Online) that says there's a rumor that SPGLA is going to be bought out by a major Internet company. Serious buying coming into the stock today. The newsletter actually says that SPGLA could see $20 based on this rumor.

Federated STores + Fingerhut = (name brand stores, brand name merchandise, customers) + (internet prescence, massive distribution system, another set of loyal customers). Spiegel is just like Fingerhut. Maybe Dayton Hudson (mervyn, target, hudson, etc) is interested in Spiegel? Or maybe Walmart? Or even the down-trodden KMart? Someone is going to buy Spiegel!!
