>If you haven't noticed China is STILL a Communist country,
>that is run by old man, that hasn't gone through a system
>of liberalization yet....Tibet, Tianmen (sp?)Square and
>forced labor camps should quickly remind you of these FACTS....

1) I found out repeatedly that, with a few exception of those who actually went and stayed in China, most people's knowledge of China is limited to what they saw from TV. Right now China is IN FACT not a communist country. The ruling party still call itself communist party. But if you look at what the government is doing (in terms promoting and gradually transform to free market economic -- although it is forced to do this for its own survival) and more importantly, look at what the entire society is doing, you will know that communism is DEAD in China.

2) China is still not a democratic society yet (It is moving toward that direction). It does has labor camps. It's political situation is similar to that of South Korea and Taiwan on and before 1970's. Although they were both capitalist countries, there were not really democratic. They had labor camps. The current Korea president was put in jail as a democratic leader at that time. Taiwan had incident (2.28 incident) similar to what happened in Tiananmen square. The point is, non-democratic and communist are not equivalent.

3) China is not run by old man. The majority of the people who are actually running the country are "Lao San Jie" (old three classes) and "77 Jie" (class 77, which I am proudly to be one, although I decided not to go into politics). Sorry I don't have time to explain who these people are since it's impossible to explain the recent history (back to Culture Revolution) here.

>Now I have friends and know people who trade with China....The >purported "news" about major financial deals and money coming
>out of China to me are JUST PLAIN FICTION...

That only means the "people" your "friends" know didn't get any "major financial deal". Do you know why even in 1989, after June 4th, Bush vetoed congress's bill and maintained China's MFN status ? And do you know why so many US companies lobby hard every year to help China to keep MFN ? Because they made "major financial deals" and are making a lot money out of China !

>The US trade deficit with China is HUGE and growing.......

US trade deficit with China exists. US and Chinese government always argue whether it is "HUGE". The key is how you calculate the deficit. Most of the product exported to US are actually produced in China by US owned companies or JVs.
