February 12, 1999 02:11 PRESS DIGEST - Wall Street Journal - Feb 12 NEW YORK, Feb 12 (Reuters) - The Wall Street Journal reported the following business stories in its electronic edition on Friday: * The Nasdaq composite soared 96.05 points, or 4.16 percent, to 2405.55, its biggest point move ever and its ninth best in percentage terms. Fed Chairman Greenspan helped spark the rally with positive comments on banking reform and praise for the economy's strength. The Dow Jones industrials rose 186.15, or 2.03 percent, to 9363.46. * AMR Corp.'s American Airlines pilots stayed home in large numbers despite a judge's order to end their sickout, and weekend disruptions in travel looked likely. American filed a contempt-of-court motion against the pilots union. * A federal jury found a group of gun makers marketed firearms negligently and were directly responsible for three shootings. The ruling was a breakthrough for antigun activists. * Lycos Inc.'s largest stockholder, CMGI Inc. , cast doubt on the plan to merge Lycos with operations of USA Networks Inc. , saying it won't support the deal Lycos's stock returns to its predeal price. *
