I talked to a VP and portfolio manager at Northern Trust about the Y2K slowdown issue - and he said that a lot of large firms will delay orders in the third and fourth quarter - why tie new equipment into a system that you have tested and Y2K compliant?

I argued that a lot of small guys and late comers will buy to replace to avoid Y2K, and he argued that the small players coming to replace will not make up for the large firms who have a freeze. He then went on to tell me how many computers Northern Trust will not order in the third and fourth quarter due to the problem.

I'm of mixed opinion now - I really think sales of PC's will chug along - maybe stabilize for a quarter or two - but can't see a major impact either.
