Katherine,

In MTSN's 4Q conference call a couple days ago, Brad Mattson advised that a $10M CVD order was received from Samsung in 1Q99 for delivery in 1Q99 and 2Q99. I found this significant in 2 ways.

First it was MTSN's first "capacity" CVD order and bodes well for that product.

Second, and more important, it appears that the DRAM makers need leading edge capacity now; that orders with immediate delivery will become the norm rather than a fond but fading memory.

My point: IMO, we're probably going to see a much more rapid recovery in revenues / earnings than is currently forecast.

Ian.

I would say that investors who took the recent BtB improvements as a sign that we're off to the races again will likely be disappointed by earnings over the next few quarters. Investors who took the recent BtB as a sign that the bottom has been reached, but who are prepared for a gradual climb out of the trough, probably have more realistic expectations.
