I would guess that they are separate companies. Fixing a skip on a disk that is already damaged is nearly impossible. Yes, you can make track not get hung up, and keep repeating, but you can't recover lost or damaged data from that nick or scratch. The best hope is the music market, where you won't miss a small bit of silence.

The product is utterly worthless on computer CD-ROMS, where a small blip in the middle of a program is not an option. Pre-protection is the best solution.
