Breadth relates, from my comments, to the overall marker, and is a measure of advances over declines (A/D). TICK is another measure of advances stock and declining stocks. I was commenting again that yesterday, the quantity of advancing stocks over declining ones was suspect because with a sharp rally like we had yesterday, one would expect gainers in all areas to outnumber losers. Yet, gainers were just marginally higher.

Things begin to get strange when you have large up days (as measured by the indexes) but have more stocks down than up. It signals a less real (not using the word "false" here, for a reason) rally.

That's poor participation, or breadth.

Hope that helps.
