There was no attack! The impeachment clause was used for political ends by a Republican minority. As the founders of the Constitution forsaw and planned for, the low quality of the arguments for impeachment simply failed the Senate.

Had it not failed we would soon live under a government in constant impeachment chaos and accusation for any and every felony. It wouldn't be government by the people, it would be government by the last standing prosecution.

Regarding the elections, it will be a test of honesty and consistency to see how many Republicans turn themselves inside out in mock apology. I hope they don't, but instead drop the independent council act and stand firm on some of their good ideas.

This intermission of government needs to end, put both sides back to work.
