We didn't have a television until I was three, and then it was kept in my parents' bedroom for several years because my father was horrified that the "boob tube" would fry my brain or something. We regarded television as one of many sources of interest and entertainment. There were certain programs that we enjoyed. We also read a great deal, played games, did needlework, learned to draw freehand, etc.

There was no need to limit the television time because we didn't feel especially drawn to it, certainly not to the exclusion of any other activity. I remember a passion for Star Trek though. And early Saturday morning cartoons I found hilarious. Does anyone else remember Saturday morning starting with The Modern Farmer? I learned a frightening amount about growing alfalfa!

An aside to Steve:
Steve, my sweet, you are not weird. Or if you are, then the nice men in white coats are on their way over here right now.
