Re: IBM using 128ZX
What a joke. The press release touts its "state of the art" performance, when it is 1 generation old right now, and will be 2 generations old before Spring after V3 and TNT2 come out. Geez, a whole 8MB running on an AGP2 platform! I sure hope no one runs any recent 3D games on these machines. Well, I'm sure it's better than what the Aptivas currently have in them.
I checked out the E Series on IBM's web site. They normally come with the Rage II, and are upgradable to the 128ZX. I wonder why they don't offer a TNT version yet? Usually it has to do with cost, although a large consideration is also support and reliability. Could also be that this is their first nVidia/Creatie experience, and if it works out well, we'll see TNTs as an upgrade option or in their high-end lines.
The E570 really is a nice machine otherwise (PII-400, 128MB RAM, DVD, lots of goodies). I tried to get a price on it, but was bounced around too many times so I gave up. (IBM is not known for bandwidth friendly websites.)
BTW, anyone remember when the 128ZX first came out? Wasn't it around this time last year?
