May I help put it to rest by noting that I am not defending any of the horrors perpetrated in the name of religion, that I am definitely not espousing any religious point of view? (If you check out some of my postings, you will find how hilarious the idea of my being a religious fanatic is!)

I was merely defending the potential of what is passed along orally, e.g., creation myths of many peoples, to remain fairly true to the original version. Period.
