SoftQuad Software Announces Powerful New Add-ons to HoTMetaL Application Server

New Quick Apps, Quick Database Pages and Power Parts Extend Functionality of Application Server with Free Drag-and-Drop Enhancements, 'Mini Applications'

TORONTO, Canada, (February 3, 1999) – SoftQuad Software Inc., a leading provider of standards-based content publishing tools, today announced new value-added tools for HoTMetaL Application Server, its low-cost solution for deploying e-commerce, customer service and personalized content applications. These tools-Quick Apps and Power Parts-are pre-built mini-applications that are ideal for end-users and developers alike, enabling them to increase the functionality of their sites with drag-and-drop ease.

"SoftQuad Software is committed to providing powerful, value-added tools to help our users get the most from their investment in HoTMetaL Application Server," said Roberto Drassinower, CEO, SoftQuad Software, Inc. "Quick Apps and Power Parts enable users to add serious functionality to their sites with just a few mouse clicks. We will continue to add new tools to the collection of Quick Apps and Power Parts in the coming months," Drassinower added.

Quick Apps, Quick Database Pages and Power Parts will be available at no charge via SoftQuad Software's new value-added , <http://www.hmfx.com>. HoTMetaL users can access these sophisticated tools via the HoTMetaL Resource Manager. Once loaded into the Resource Manager, users just drag and drop to add the mini-applications to their websites. Absolutely no programming or testing is required.

Quick Apps are mini-applications built with the powerful Miva-scripting engine, which is the backbone of SoftQuad Software's HoTMetaL Application Server. Quick Apps are deployed on the HoTMetaL Application Server, or the Miva Empresa, and include an address book, an events calendar, and a survey generator that comes complete with mechanisms for feedback and analysis. Each mini-application is fully functional and pre-tested, so users can simply drag and drop them on to a web page.

Quick Database Pages (QDBs) allow Web authors to easily database-enable their websites for gathering and displaying valuable information over the Web. With drag-and-drop ease, Web authors can create a guestbook, capture email addresses for mailing lists or newsletters, gather data from surveys and more. They can also easily query their data and have results returned as XML or ordinary HTML tables.

Power Parts are building blocks that enhance a website's productivity instantly. They are also developed using Miva scripts, and are accessed through the HoTMetaL Resource Manager. Power Parts include a mail-to form, a banner ad rotator and statistical analysis tool, and a robust password protection system with the ability to add and delete users, create and change passwords, and more. To add Power Parts to a site, users just select one from the Resource Manager, define a few parameters and settings, and then insert it onto their site.

These applications also serve as valuable teaching tools for web developers. Developers can modify both individual Power Parts and Quick Apps, and in the process, can learn to create their own custom solutions. The new scripts they create can be added to the resource manager just like Quick Apps and Power Parts, so they are readily accessible in the future.
