[World Football(soccer); the Game of Happiness and Love,si?]
A moment to pause....
Soccer can be that... but it can also be truly evil and bring the worst in humans.
But if the right perspective is kept... it is a great passion, it is fast, intense, incredibly competitive.... and best of all. it is spoken in a universal language understood by everyone who has ever participated in it.
No political program, economic system, philosophical current, or religious belief, can bring so many people of so many different backgrounds and economical levels, together, as this sport can.
Even if you encounter your fiercest enemy in the field, at the end of the game, good sportsmanship must always rule. Win or lose, you always shake your opponent's hand.
Yes, it is true that there has been many instances in which the above did not really happen... that is when perspective was lost... and unfortunately in most instances, are the "fans" (the wild ones known as "fanimals")... that sometimes, truly "show their colors" .... of savagery and ignorance.... and they put on an ugly show that has given disrepute to an otherwise great sport.
Next World Cup will be in 2002....

We had great fun throughout the Cup.... except for one instance when some moron showed up and suggested some bs about the Falkland/Malvinas Islands war.... in reference to the match between Argentina and England.
He really pissed me off and gave him a piece of my mind....
But other than that..... <g>
In Brazil... soccer is a near religion... the loss of a World Cup IS a national disaster as it was last year.... however the Brazilians played the worst game I have ever seen them play (the final against the French).
