Interesting topic, nicely compliments our former discussion of whether men and women can easily have close platonic friendships. I think it all goes back to an understanding of our differing sex roles and our differing investment in the young. Women needed men to support them during child rearing. Throwing out a male for infidelity would mean giving up his support and doesn't make sense for her progeny. Women and men have different reproductive imperatives driving them, women to nurture the large investment they have in a few children and men to reproduce as much as possible. Given the conflicts if a man chooses to "lose" out on his possible progeny by dedicating himself to one female OF COURSE he will be extremely threatened if his investment goes to raising another males offspring. Conversely, a woman's investment in her own offspring isn't threatened by her mates infidelity. She knows the parentage of her offspring. What threatens her is resource deprivation which is most likely if her mate forms an attachment to another female.
