<<<It wasn't too long ago that Dell didn't sell a PC for under $1700.>>> Many moons ago, when analysts were predicting the end of the line for Dell because others were going to produce the under 1K computers Dell was asked about it. A highly placed executive at Dell (hehehe) replied essentially as follows. (I dont give his name as I have to go by memory. The exact words are written down but you have to look them up) " Well we are selling a computer priced at $12xx, WITH THE COLOR MONITOR, which puts us very close to the "under $1k product" advertised by others and which normally comes without a monitor" <<<< Less than a year ago, the bulls on this thread were saying Dell would NEVER play in the sub-$1000 space. Looks like Dell is getting pretty close to me...>>>> Dell has always had a product close to the $1K field, it is just not emphasized because Dell targets the up-scale customer who wants superior performance and top-speed, top grade components. My first Dell was purchased in 1993 in a store (indirectly, G), cost $1174 including a color monitor which was much more expensive in those days than now. Prior to that, The Atari's I was using cost around $2000 with a separate disk drive and no monitor. The Dell was such an improvement that I bgt a few Dell shares in July of 1993, and a few more in Nov of 1993, and a few more, etc. (one can never have enough Dell) Sig |
