Steve...

Paul Motter here. I am TMF DotCom for Motley Fool, resident commentator on networking/Internet stocks. You and I met briefly at Internet World where you were the moderator of the Internet stocks conference.

simple inertia favors NSOL -- it has millions registered already...renewing them in our opinion looks like a no-brainer (unless registering prices drops with rivals). even so, NSOL has that elusive lead in the business.

Good point, as much as I dislike dealing with Internic (they are pretty incompetent, in charge of the 'net and their own site doesn't even work correctly), they do have the franchise. Question, wouldn't you expect the people in charge of DNS to think about securing names similar to their own? NSOL is at internic.net, but go to internic.com and you find a business trying to sell you registration services.

cych -- i have mixed thoughts on this one after following this company four years now...merchant services and one-click look attractive. if it doesn't realize its market in 1999 then i don't see it winning against the credit card and microsofts of the world.

I agree. As more banks become aware of e-commerce there is less motivation for them to allow Cybercash to have a piece of the transaction. Fleet financial is an example of a bank that supplies a complete card_authorization/SSL/shopping cart solution to its merchant account customers.

Inktomi Another stock I wish I'd bought, but...
I agree with what you said about Gadzooks. I don't know why anyone thinks INKTs search engine is good. I regularly go to Excite to search even though I use Yahoo as my startpage. Yahoo searches are usually a waste of time for me. But Inktomi's caching is another story.

Steve, you didn't comment on Abovenet, and I am also curious about your thoughts on Digital River.
