Jane, that discussion of early 80s (and late 70s) bands led me to dig out a stack of old vinyl LPs I had in a storage box. I was just listening to The Tubes song "White Punks on Dope" (for the lyrics, see bennettsweb.com and "Mondo Bondage". Maybe I should buy one of those black leather studded jockstraps that the Tubes' lead singer wore when performing that song, to impress my girlfriend. (I should be careful what I say about such things - it would probably excite Mark C.!!)
So, now, I have a lot of buried treasure to listen to, records I haven't heard in years, punk and new wave bands like The Germs, Throbbing Gristle, The Sex Pistols, early Sisters of Mercy and Talking Heads, Gary Numan, the soundtrack from "Repo Man", The Dead Kennedys, and The Plasmatics. Plus, a lot of reggae & African music from people like Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Toots and the Maytals, and Fela Kuti.
Gotta run -- I'm going to put on Plasmatics song "Sex Junkie" - sing along with Wendy O.:
"Harder faster! Harder faster! Secrets of lust that you keep in your mind. Victims like you are so easy to find. First name is dirt and your last name is sleaze. You're a sex junkie, you'll do as I please!" |
