I strongly suspect that they have a data base to work from. Analysts are forever talking with and visiting companies. Further, I can't believe that the analysts aren't aware of IDC and all the other independent research firms around. I suspect they get data from research firms that we, as retail investors, don't even know exist. They would be research firms that deal only with institutional and investment houses. So, I'm not so sure the analysts are "shooting from the hip". Whether or not the analysts are correct in what they come up with is another matter. As you have pointed out many times, modeling and forecasting are difficult tasks to perform. JMO Stock Bull
