This Compaq spec sheet provides compelling evidence that NVIDIA is already selling a "TNTv" product, a lower-performance version of the RIVA TNT.

compaq.com

The entire Compaq Prosignia line (direct-order models that sell in relatively small volumes, compared to DeskPro's and Presario's) use a TNT-based card from STB; the Celeron models use the TNTv.

The TNTv is probably a TNT that is running at a slightly slower clock frequency, which accords with rumours I've seen earlier on the net. It doesn't seem unlikely that Diamond is using the TNTv in their lower end TNT board with 8MB memory. I don't think the TNTv is the same as the "Vanta" chip, since Vanta is supposed to be manufactured using 0.25 micron technology.

Overall, as a chip the TNT continues to be very well positioned, being manufactured in abundantly available 0.35 micron process while 0.25 micron is in short supply, and the driver improvements are extending its life. However, the dependence on STB for OEM shipments is a bit of a hanging sword. Will Diamond or Creative be able to pick up some of this business for NVIDIA?
